EduBirdie is Looking for Volunteers to Study the Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Academic Performance

This study will provide valuable information about the impact of artificial intelligence on students' learning processes and academic performance.

The all-in-one website for students has announced that it is looking for students to participate in a study on the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) tools on academic performance. In this way, the company seeks to learn more about the impact of AI on the educational process.

"Technology and innovation are an integral part of our lives. Keeping up with them means running, not walking, because everything is developing rapidly. At EduBirdie, we decided to investigate how solutions such as ChatGPT or other AI-powered tools affect academic performance. We want to study the impact on productivity, focus, mental health, and self-confidence." — Avery Morgan, Chief Communications Officer at EduBirdie.

Participants should use only generated content for three weeks in their written assignments and project research. In addition, they should only use the generated content to develop ideas and check spelling and grammar.

Once the experiment is complete, the EduBirdie team plans to conduct in-depth interviews with each participant to determine what changes have occurred. To do this, they will assess technology-related factors, such as access to digital resources and educational technology tools, and health factors, including physical and mental health. They will also consider individual factors such as motivation, learning style, self-discipline, and study habits.

Interested students are asked to complete the form on the website by May 5, 2023. Once all participants are selected, they will be provided with a list of recommended free AI-based tools that they can use to work on their writing assignments. EduBirdie promises to work closely with each participant to ensure that everyone uses these tools for academic writing during the study period. Each participant will receive a $1,000 credit to their EduBirdie account, which can be used for any service throughout the year.

EduBirdie believes that this study will provide valuable information about the impact of artificial intelligence on students' learning processes and academic performance.

New ‘Freedom Libraries’ in California Institutions Seek to Inspire Those Incarcerated to Imagine New Possibilities

Freedom Libraries, conceived by former prisoner-turned-acclaimed-poet, open at Correctional Training Facility

The national nonprofit Freedom Reads announced today the opening of 24 Freedom Libraries inside the Correctional Training Facility (CTF) in Soledad, California. The Freedom Libraries will be placed in 22 of the facility's housing units for unfettered access to the 500-book collection. In addition to the libraries placed in CTF's housing units, 2 libraries will be placed for staff use.

The opening of these 24 libraries is a part of Freedom Reads' ongoing partnership with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). Freedom Libraries have previously been opened at Valley State Prison (VSP) and Central California Women's Facility (CCWF) in Chowchilla, California. Freedom Reads returned to CCWF on May 1 with an additional 11 libraries.

The brainchild of 2021 MacArthur Fellow and Yale Law School graduate Reginald Dwayne Betts, who was sentenced to nine years in prison at age 16, the Freedom Libraries are placed where people in prison spend guaranteed time: in the housing units, where there aren't barriers to access, where reaching for a book can be as spontaneous as human curiosity. Each bookshelf is handcrafted out of maple, walnut or cherry and is curved to contrast the straight lines and bars of prisons as well as to evoke Martin Luther King Jr.'s line about the "arc of the universe" bending "toward justice."

On May 3, following the openings of the Freedom Libraries, Reginald Dwayne Betts will perform for an audience at CTF his one-man show Felon: An American Washi Tale, in which he explores the lingering consequences of having a criminal record, fatherhood, the power of literature, and love. The show is based on Betts' 2019 poetry collection Felon

"We are thankful for our ongoing partnership with CDCR and our shared goal of creating opportunities for unfettered access to literature inside their facilities," said Reginald Dwayne Betts, Founder and Executive Director of Freedom Reads. "I know first-hand how isolating living inside prisons can be. CDCR isn't just letting us bring books into these facilities; instead, they are allowing us to bring beautiful handmade bookshelves that create spaces of community within an environment often devoid of hope. These libraries at CTF will create the opportunity for daily engagement with literature and foster an environment that will allow those incarcerated to imagine new possibilities for their lives. "

About Freedom Reads:

Founded by Reginald Dwayne Betts, who knows firsthand the dispiriting forces of prison, Freedom Reads works to empower people through literature to confront what prison does to the spirit. Supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and inspired by the recognition that freedom begins with a book, Freedom Reads supports the efforts of people in prison to transform their lives through increased access to books and writers. Bitcoin Talent Co. Partners With Summer of Bitcoin to Launch Summer 2023 Bitcoin Industry Apprenticeship (BIA) Program

Building from Summer of Bitcoin's expertise offering summer internships in the free and open source software (FOSS) space since 2021, this joint effort will unlock additional opportunities for students to spend time learning from and contributing to the operations of venture-funded Bitcoin companies.

.   Today, Bitcoin Talent Co. and Summer of Bitcoin announce a joint partnership to offer internship opportunities in the Bitcoin industry exclusively for students pursuing undergraduate or graduate studies from universities in North America and Europe. With applications opening today, the program will run from June 12 to August 25.

Over the past several years, top students have pursued internships with FAANG companies and, more recently, in the "Crypto / Web3" space. While those industries suffer ongoing reductions in force and business closures altogether, Bitcoin-only companies continue building and marching forward to a steady drumbeat. As the larger macroeconomic and geopolitical backdrop provides persistent examples of Bitcoin's importance, we see this as the perfect time to dedicate one's career to helping this industry grow.

As a student, this program can offer the following:

  • Industry Exposure and Networking: An opportunity to connect with professionals in your field, establish relationships, and be matched with a mentor who can guide you throughout the program and after as you plan your future career path.
  • Skill Development: Gain hands-on experience in your field and develop practical skills in the world of Bitcoin.
  • Learn About Bitcoin: Gain an in-depth understanding of Bitcoin through educational material provided throughout the program, which can be applied to various industries and fields.
  • Start Your Career: Over 30% of interns graduating from university have been offered full-time roles after participating in Summer of Bitcoin's previous open-source internship programs.

Students interested in pursuing summer internships, as well as companies who would like to join our list of partners offering internship opportunities, can learn more at www.bitcointalent.co/bitcoin-industry-apprenticeship-program

The River School (River) and Potomac River Clinic (PRC) were recently awarded a $250,000 grant from the Green Family Foundation to establish a Community Outreach Fund that will provide intervention and support for children from underserved communities with hearing loss and their parents. The Fund will be used to build capacity and expand the reach of The River School and the Potomac River Clinic's services in the region, including increased clinical staff, additional space and equipment, and providing access to specialized services to children in areas of the city that have historically been in need.

In Washington, DC, more than 80% of children who did not pass their universal newborn hearing screening are lost to follow-up. Many others do not receive hearing aids and/or cochlear implants in a timely way due to long waits for diagnostic testing and intervention services. Through the Potomac River Clinic, the Community Outreach Fund will provide children from marginalized communities the same access to state-of-the-art technologies, diagnostic and intervention services and programs that have successfully helped other children overcome the developmental effects of early hearing loss and succeed socially and academically.

"We are incredibly grateful to the Green Family Foundation for their generous support," said Nancy Mellon, Head of The River School. "Intervention begins with diagnosis or confirmation of diagnosis, provision of hearing aids and referral for a cochlear implant candidacy assessment if appropriate, ongoing parent training and education, auditory-verbal and speech-language therapy, and then continued hearing aid fitting and/or cochlear implant programming across the lifespan. It's not a one-and-done. With this grant, the Community Outreach Fund will help close the language and literacy gap between underserved children and their hearing peers by providing intensive services from diagnosis through rehabilitation."

Potomac River Clinic and The River School work closely with leaders at the local and national level to advocate for children with hearing loss, specifically for wider availability of early intervention and earlier identification. In the 1990s, River was instrumental in lobbying for universal newborn screening, and PRC is one of only a few diagnostic centers in Washington, DC, that accepts Medicaid. In 2015, River and PRC successfully lobbied DC Medicaid to begin covering cochlear implant surgeries, a significant win for children with deafness in the city.

Potomac River Clinic and The River School are two separate nonprofit entities, both committed to providing the highest quality of care to children with hearing loss and their families.

About The River School

Founded in 1999, The River School (River) established the first fully inclusive educational program for children with hearing loss in the United States. Educating young children from 18 months through Grade 6, River provides full immersion of children with hearing loss with their typically developing peers in a unique co-teaching model that pairs a master's level educator and a speech-language pathologist in every classroom. With an emphasis on experiential and collaborative learning, the curriculum integrates literacy, math, science, drama, music, visual arts, physical education and yoga into a robust, child-centered program, adding world languages in Upper Elementary. The River School challenges each child to work collaboratively, to think critically, and to develop the confidence to take risks, embrace their curiosity, and find their voice. More information can be found at riverschool.net

About Potomac River Clinic

Potomac River Clinic (formerly known as Chattering Children) is a nonprofit organization co-located in The River School, which serves the greater Washington, DC, area. Potomac River Clinic provides children with hearing loss and their families a range of services, including auditory-verbal therapy, hearing aid and cochlear implant programming, psycho-educational assessments, educational support, speech-language therapy and other services. Through partnerships in research, professional training, and collaborative outreach programs, Potomac River Clinic promotes best practices in language learning for children with hearing loss.
