The Vice President and Chancellor Scholz discussed Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine, reviewed recent developments, and reaffirmed their enduring commitment to the people of Ukraine. The Vice President thanked Chancellor Scholz for his global leadership. The Vice President welcomed Germany’s historic defense investments and strong humanitarian, economic, and security assistance for Ukraine, including Germany’s provision of Leopard tanks and budgetary support for Ukraine. They discussed challenges posed by the People’s Republic of China, including the importance of upholding the rules-based order, and agreed to remain closely aligned. The leaders also discussed cooperation on efforts to address the climate crisis and accelerate the transition to clean energy.
